Brief introduction of spectrometer:

   Spectrometer, also known as infrared spectrometer or Infrared Spectroscopy,spectrograph Spectrum detector.  It is an instrument for molecular structure and chemical composition analysis by using the absorption characteristics of substances to infrared radiation of different wavelengths. The spectrometer is used in dyeing and weaving industry, environmental science, biology, materials science, polymer chemistry, catalysis, coal structure research, petroleum industry, biomedicine, biochemistry, pharmacy, basic research of inorganic and coordination chemistry, semiconductor materials, daily chemical industry and other research fields.

Working principle of spectrometer:

   Infrared spectrometer is usually composed of light source, monochromator, detector and computer processing information system. According to the different optical splitting device, it can be divided into dispersion type and interference type. For the dispersive dual-optical path optical zero-equilibrium infrared spectrophotometer, when the sample absorbs infrared radiation of a certain frequency, the vibrational energy level of the molecule transitions, and the light of the corresponding frequency in the transmitted beam is weakened, resulting in the radiation intensity difference between the reference optical path and the sample optical path, so as to obtain the infrared spectrum of the measured sample.

 

 

Development of spectrometers:

  Spectrometers are generally divided into two categories, one is raster scanning, rarely used; The other is a Michelson interferometer scan, called Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which is the most widely used. Raster scanning is to use spectroscope to divide detection light (infrared light) into two beams, one as a reference light, the other as a probe light irradiation sample, then use grating and monochromator to separate the wavelength of infrared light, scan and detect the intensity of each wavelength, and finally integrate into a spectrum. Fourier transform infrared spectrum uses Michelson interferometer to divide the detected light (infrared light) into two beams, which are reflected back to the beam splitter on the moving mirror and the fixed mirror. The two beams are broadband coherent light, which will interfere. Coherent infrared light irradiates the sample and is collected by the detector to obtain the infrared interferogram data containing the sample information. After the Fourier transform of the data by the computer, the infrared spectrum of the sample is obtained. Fourier transform infrared spectrum has the characteristics of fast scanning rate, high resolution, stable repeatability and so on, and is widely used.

  Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, known as the third generation infrared spectrometer, uses the Mackelson interferometer to interinterfere with two beams of multi-color infrared light whose optical path difference changes at a certain speed, forming interference light, and then interact with the sample. The detector sends the resulting interference signals to a computer for mathematical processing of Fourier changes, and restores the interferogram to a spectrogram.
